Argentine national team legend Angel Di Maria sent a message to Lionel Messi, the Inter Miami star, after he announced his retirement from the national team.
Di Maria retweeted Messi's statement on his account, adding: "Thank you, forever captain."
Di Maria was Messi's teammate, and the two helped Argentina win the 2022 World Cup and the Copa America in 2021 and 2024.
It's worth mentioning that Di Maria announced his retirement from the national team after Argentina won the 2024 Copa America.
In an official statement posted on his account, Messi wrote: "After a long period of reflection, especially after the final, I want to tell you that I have decided to end my national team career."
He added: "It was a painful decision, and it still hurts me to this day, but I knew the time had come. I swear, I have always given my all, not only during these years when we won everything, but also before. I have always fought for this jersey and given everything I have, just to make you happy and to let you feel the pride of being Argentinian through football."
