Former Morocco national team coach Regragui discussed the penalty kick missed by Brahim Diaz in the final stages of the Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco and Senegal on a TV program .

After the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Regragui resigned as the head coach of Morocco. In a recent program, he talked about the Africa Cup of Nations final against Senegal: "I keep thinking about (Brahim) Diaz's penalty: if he had taken it immediately on the spot, or 15 minutes after the penalty was awarded, would he have taken it in the same way?"
The match was interrupted for about 15 minutes due to protests and the departure of Senegalese players. The Senegalese players briefly returned to the locker room before returning to the field.
The former Morocco coach also mentioned the 2026 World Cup match between France and Morocco, in which Mbappe missed a penalty against Morocco.
Regragi said, "When Mbappe missed his penalty against Bono, he complained and told the referee that the two-minute interruption affected his concentration. So, how was Diaz's concentration during the 15-minute interruption?"
When asked what he said to Brahim Diaz after he missed the penalty, Regragi emphasized that he did not blame the player. "I didn't say anything to him. I just told him: 'Kid, this will teach you a lot and make you stronger. You have to learn from every experience.'"
